KHCF and KHCC in 2019 - Limitless Achievements and Aspirations
January 2020 - The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Center (KHCC) bade farewell to 2019 with an abundance of achievements in line with their humanitarian vision of saving the lives of cancer patients. These successes were reached through the endless generosity and support of partners and donors who are committed to social solidarity in fighting the disease of our time - cancer.
KHCC’s crowning achievement during 2019 was the provision of treatment to 5600 new cancer patients, offering the best comprehensive care delivered by the Center’s talented medical personnel and the most advanced international technology.
Another significant 2019 accomplishment was funding the treatment of 737 underprivileged patients through KHCF’s Goodwill Fund and the Zakat Fund, which are supported by KHCF’s generous donors. In addition to covering treatment, KHCF also covered the transportation fees of 959 patients and the accommodation costs of 620 patients who live in remote areas and would otherwise face difficulty getting to their treatment sessions.
Through the leadership of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program and its efforts to encourage early detection across the Kingdom, 6000 women underwent mammograms, and free screenings were provided to 3951 women from remote and disadvantaged areas through mobile mammogram units in the various governorates.
As part of KHCF/KHCC’s efforts to develop a sustainable solution to cover cancer treatment costs, and as a step toward comprehensive and fair coverage for all cancer patients in Jordan, the subscriber base of KHCF’s non-profit Cancer Care Program expanded to reach 208,304 subscribers.
KHCC continuously works to raise the level of its services to meet the latest global developments in cancer treatment. During 2019, the Center opened its brain and nerve operation room, the first of its kind in Jordan, equipped with a magnetic resonance device to ensure the highest levels of accuracy in removing tumors. KHCC also organized several conferences to bring together doctors, researchers and other top experts from around the world to exchange experiences and expertise.
Hard work and medical excellence earned KHCC new international accreditations in 2019, most notably the MAGNET accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This prestigious accreditation makes KHCC the first center specialized in the treatment of tumors outside the U.S. to be awarded this accreditation, a designation achieved by only 8% of hospitals in the U.S., and 9 international healthcare organizations.
As part of its strategic objective to lead cancer research efforts in the Middle East, KHCC established new partnerships through which it published 84 articles and scientific studies. This achievement resulted in the launch of the first Master's program in the world related to cancer informatics, in cooperation with the University of Western England and the University of Jordan, wherein 14 students enrolled in the first class of the program. As for training and education, the Center, through its academy, trained 339 medical cadres in Jordan and the region through various courses, scientific conferences and seminars, proving KHCC’s stature as a reference in this field.
Because psychological support is an essential part of KHCF/KHCC’s work, we have expanded the psychological support programs and the Dreams Come True Program. As part of these efforts, HRH Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II inaugurated the "Heroes Cave", an area which is visited by more than 70 pediatric patients on a daily basis and contains a wide range of entertainment and toys for child patients.
KHCF/KHCC extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to every supporter who devoted their time, energy and resources to KHCC patients over the past year. The achievements detailed above only occurred a result of their unconditional love, their deep sense of humanity, and unfailing belief in the noble mission of KHCF/KHCC, who will relentlessly continue this journey in 2020 and beyond for a cancer-free future, God willing.
