Early detection tests that are recommended based on age and gender include the following:
Women
Women between 20-39 years of age
- A BSE (breast-self exam) on a monthly basis.
- A clinical breast exam by a specialist starting at the age of 20; to be repeated every 1 to 2.5 years. This test should be done annually after the age of 35.
- An annual pap smear starting 3 years after becoming sexually active.
- An annual skin test.
Women between 40-50 years of age
- A monthly BSE (breast-self exam).
- A clinical breast exam by a specialist.
- An annualpap smear starting 3 years after becoming sexually active.
- An annual mammogram.
- An annual skin test.
Women over 50 years of age
- A monthly BSE (breast-self exam).
- A clinical breast exam by a specialist
- A pap smear 3 years after marriage; to be done annually from then on.
- An annual mammogram.
- A colonoscopy every ten years, or an FOBT every year, and a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy every five years.
- An annual skin test.
Men
Men between 18-49 years of age
- An annual or biannual skin test.
Men over 50 years of age
- An annual or biannual skin test.
- An annual or biannual testicle examination.
- An annual Digital Rectal Exam.
- A colonoscopy every ten years, or an FOBT, and a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy every five years.
- An annual PSA test.
