KHCF Launches “Go Green Against Cancer” Campaign
Amman, September 7th, 2023 – The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) launched the "Go Green Against Cancer" campaign with the aim of encouraging the community to adopt healthy behaviors that contribute to preserving the environment by combating all forms of smoking and reducing air pollution. According to global statistics, 8 out of every 10 cases of lung cancer are directly linked to smoking, and 36% of lung cancer deaths are attributed to air pollution.
The launch of the campaign coincides with World Environmental Health Day, which falls on September 26.
The campaign, announced on KHCF’s social media platforms, carries the hashtag #GoGreenAgainstCancer and emphasizes the importance of taking steps to reduce environmental pollution and combat smoking in all its forms. The campaign also calls on individuals, companies, and institutions to participate in the "Think Green" initiative, which encourages the implementation of individual and community initiatives to reduce the environmental and health impact of air pollution and all forms of smoking.
The campaign is supported by Bank Al-Etihad and the "ila" banking application under Jordan's ABC Bank, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health. It includes events in various regions of the kingdom, aiming to establish positive environmental and health behaviors among individuals and institutions.
Mrs. Nisreen Qatamish, Director General of KHCF, stated: "Through the campaign, we focus on raising awareness about simple daily behaviors that positively impact the preservation of the environment and reduce the risks of air pollution to prevent cancer. This includes combating smoking in all its forms in public and enclosed spaces, reducing vehicle emissions, and planting trees to improve air quality.”
