The Fourth Joint Conference between KHCC, AUBMC, and MD Anderson Cancer Center

 
Under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center (KHCF and KHCC), the Opening Ceremony of the 4th Joint Conference, between the King Hussein Cancer Center, the American University of Beirut Medical Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States of America, commenced today evening at the Le Royal Hotel.
 
HRH’s welcoming speech highlighted the importance of the joint collaboration and sister ship between the King Hussein Cancer Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center, which is considered one of the leading cancer centers in the world. This continuous relationship provides opportunities in research, training and medical consultations between both centers, thus benefiting cancer patients around the globe. HRH Princess Ghida said: “As time goes on, and science progresses, the balance of life swings ever more in the direction of health, of hope, of survival, and further away from the grim alternative. I, like all of you I sure, look forward to the day when our services are no longer needed, when we have been so successful as to consign ourselves to become obsolete, inshallah”.
 
Dr. Asem Mansour, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Center, and President of the Conference, stated that the Conference, through liaising with two prestigious medical institutions, aims to urge researchers in the Middle East to submit their unpublished work, encourage scientific research, and present a summary of clinical findings in the region.
 
Dr. Mansour explained that the conference will address some of the most recent developments in oncology, with a focus on cancers of the breast, lung, digestive system and the nervous system. The Conference includes over 250 participants, including consultants, residents, and pharmacists as well as researchers in the medical field and six lecturers from MD Anderson Cancer Center. The conference also includes a workshop titled: "Protocol Development Workshop” organized by the King Hussein Cancer Center.
 
According to Dr. Maysa Al-Hussaini, Consultant of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the King Hussein Cancer Center, and Chair of the Organizing and Scientific Committee of the Conference, 89 scientific research papers in various fields of oncology will be presented during the 2-day conference. Regional participation includes Lebanon, Egypt, and Oman as well as participants from the University of Jordan, the Hashemite University, Royal Medical Services, and the National Cancer Registry.
