Dr. Amal Al Omari

Dr. Amal Al Omari is the Chief Scientific Officer at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC). She has over 2 decades of experience in clinical and translational research, and currently leads KHCC's Office of Scientific Affairs and Research (OSAR) which is responsible for overall research administration and management at KHCC and oversees several functions and centers at the Center, including the Cancer Registry and the Center for Grants and Contracts Management.  In addition, Dr. Al Omari manages KHCC’s Center of Research Shared Resources, which is composed of a dedicated clinical trials unit, a biostatistics unit, a data management unit, a survey research unit and a research training and education unit.

Dr. Al Omari also co-chairs the Research Council at KHCC, which is the entity responsible for overall research strategy and promotion at the Center.  In her capacity as Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Al Omari oversees strategic networking and collaboration with leading institutions and organizations to advance and improve clinical research operations, infrastructure and capacity building.  As such, she helped to induct KHCC into the European Organization for Research and the Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) in 2015, which allows KHCC's participation in various international, multicenter interventional clinical trials which offer new, state-of-the-art treatments to cancer patients which may not be available outside the research setting.

OSAR supports the research council in reviewing all research submissions for scientific validity and merit, and awarding funds for proposals requesting financial support through the Intramural Research Grants Program at KHCC.  There is an interactive and dynamic process in place between OSAR, the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Research Council. In 2015, she initiated a quality assurance project for clinical research.  By 2019, KHCC became accredited with the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AHRPP), known as the "golden seal of excellence" in clinical research.

Dr. Al Omari holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Iowa, USA and has published numerous research articles and studies in a wide range of international scientific journals.
