Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy

At KHCC, we use physical therapy to help cancer patients by restoring function, improving their ability to move or walk, relieving pain and preventing or limiting physical disabilities in patients suffering from injury or disease. The goal is to restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health.

We also use occupational therapy to help our patients. Occupational therapy (OT) is the science and art of dealing with physical, mental and psychiatric dysfunction. Patients are trained to reach optimal independent levels in activities of daily living, work skill, and leisure. Occupational therapy deals with patients on an individual level based on his/her needs, goals and desires. OT also helps parents, families, friends and teachers to understand and gain the necessary skills to support the patient and enhance independency.

The unit offers its services to both inpatients and outpatients. Over 8,000 sessions are delivered at KHCC annually.

Our expertise
The Physical Therapy Unit at KHCC includes:
  • Electrotherapy
  • Exercise therapy
  • Lymphedema therapy
  • Laser therapy
  • Hydrotherapy
The following services are provided by the Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Unit at KHCC:
  • Rehabilitation medicine clinic: Held weekly to assess which patients need rehabilitation services and to follow up on patients who are already engaged in a rehabilitation program
  • Vision rehabilitation: A physical therapist and an occupational therapist are responsible for following up patients with visual impairments. This group of patients has special challenges; some have little vision preserved, while others are completely blind.  We attempt to train those patients to use their remaining visual abilities and enhance them, using their sensations, power and coordination with little or no vision.  This helps those patients reintegrate in society and maximize use of their present skills and abilities. The process is very critical for young patients whose brain development depends on their exposure to stimulation from outside environments.  The program is taking its first steps, collaborating with centers inside and outside Jordan to improve the level of provided care
  • Orthopedic Team: Our unit is a vital part of the orthopedic team providing rehabilitation services to patients who underwent various types of orthopedic surgeries. The Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Unit at KHCC is a pioneer in Limb Salvage surgeries rehabilitation
  • Breast Cancer Education Clinic: Held weekly to educate patients who underwent breast surgeries at KHCC about possible complications to help patients return to their normal lives as soon as possible
  • Lymphedema Program: Lymephedema is caused by fluid retention in the body due to a compromised lymphatic system. This is a serious condition which can cause infection. The Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Unit launched this program to help patients cope with lymphedema.
  • Pain Management Program: Our unit participates in the pain management program to help patients who suffer from different types of pain to manage their pain more effectively, thereby reducing the need for pain relief drugs
  • Home Care Team: Physical therapy services are provided at home to hospice and palliative patients who cannot attend their sessions in the center
Department Structure
The Rehabilitation Unit is divided into two sections:
  • Physical  therapy
  • Occupational therapy
Training and Education Activities
As a part of the Continuous Medical Education activities held at KHCC, the Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Unit participates in the General Nursing Orientation (GNO) lectures by educating nursing staff about safe patient handling and correct body mechanics. The unit also conducts training programs for participants from outside the Center.
