Coping During Treatment

 
Undergoing treatment will most likely be a stressful time for you and your loved ones. In addition to feeling physically ill and exhausted, you might be experiencing a lot of emotional ups and downs.  Below are some suggestions that can take your mind off treatment and help you cope:
 
  • Write
    • Keep a journal or diary to document your emotions and feelings
    • Write stories
    • Write letters to your loved ones
  • Laugh
    • Watch a funny movie, go see a comedy show,
    • Play with animals or children
    • Participate in the laugh therapy and meditation sessions that take place at KHCC
  • Draw
    • Try painting or sketching
  • Meditate
    • Learn meditation and relaxation techniques
    • Download meditation apps on your phone or ipad
  • Try new things
    • Don’t be afraid to have fun and try new things, such as a cooking class, or taking a day trip to a place you’ve never been before 
    • Note: always discuss any activities you plan to do with your doctor beforehand to make sure it’s okay for you to do so from a medical standpoint
  • Remain active
    • It helps to remain busy to take your mind off treatment
    • If you have the energy, go for daily walks, or get involved in work that makes you happy and fulfilled
