Bone Marrow Transplantation

The King Hussein Cancer Center performs approximately 100 bone marrow transplants (BMT) each year.

The KHCC BMT program is one of the largest and most successful programs in the Middle East, achieving cure rates comparable with international standards. It oversees both matched and unmatched allogeneic and autologous transplants.

The KHCC BMT program also performs transplants utilizing cord blood, making it the only program in Jordan and the second in the region to offer such a highly-specialized procedure.

Other non-cancer cases are also treated through the KHCC BMT program, including thalassemia, aplastic anemia and other metabolic diseases.

The BMT program is comprised of both an adult and a pediatric section. The BMT unit contains 15 rooms (adults and pediatrics) which are supported with a High Efficiency Particulate Filter (HEPA). We have 10 outpatient clinics (five adults and five pediatric), stem cell collection and Extra Corporeal Photophersis (ECP) facilities.

We also offer full psychosocial service support that includes a play therapist for pediatric patients.
