SIWAR Volunteer Program
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Volunteers are a special part of the care provided by KHCC. Many individuals from the community contribute their time and talent to patients, visitors and staff each year. Our volunteers are simply the life-blood of our organization. A wide variety of volunteer services and programs within KHCC and KHCF are available. The fight against cancer requires support from the entire community, which is why the SIWAR Volunteer Program was established.
We chose SIWAR as the word to best describe our Volunteer Program, as we see SIWAR as the unification of people together in the fight against cancer. The SIWAR logo symbolizes the powerful circle of holding hands, embracing others, helping and caring for those in need. It is through working together that produces positive change.
A SIWAR volunteer demonstrates BELIEF in our cause and our mission to help people…a dedication to VOLUNTEER time, talents and efforts…and in so doing, CHANGING lives of so many patients and the community at large.
The SIWAR program seeks to engage members of the community, individuals, institutions and corporations in the fight against cancer to:
• assist KHCC in its life-saving work by providing practical, emotional and social support for patients undergoing treatment at the Center and for their families
• increase public awareness about cancer and the important role that individuals, corporations and institutions can play to support this noble cause
• create a ''philosophy of giving'' by promoting volunteering as a powerful force of change for volunteers themselves and for the community
