Pediatric Oncology

 
 

   Pediatric department Services:

A.    In-Patient Services:

¡        Number of in-patient beds in the pediatric unit is 29

¡        Children and adolescents up to the age of 18 are admitted for in-patient care

¡     The department has a separate ICU unit for its patients

¡       Following sub-specialties, the following consultations are provided to our patients:

o       Infectious diseases

o       Gastroenterology

o       Neurology

o       Cardiology

o       Nephrology

o       Immunology

o       Pulmonology

 

B.    Out-Patient Unit:

¡    The following specialty services were established to allow for sub specialization and development of fine expertise in the treatment of common childhood cancers.

o       Leukemia service

o       Lymphoma service

o       Brain tumors service

o       Solid tumors service

o       Benign hematology service

o       After-Treatment Clinic

 

¡        A new clinic was established within the solid tumors service: the multidisciplinary pediatric sarcoma clinic.

 

¡    The following multidisciplinary clinical programs have regular clinics:

o       Ocular-Oncology

o       Neuro-Oncology

o       Bone Tumors & Limb Salvage

o       Pain Management

o       Hospice & Palliative Care

o       Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition

 

C.     Chemotherapy Unit:

The chemotherapy area is now equipped to handle pediatric drop-ins and emergencies. The area is staffed from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm daily to allow for the extended uses of hydration, blood component administration and antibiotic administration. This unit has allowed out-patients to be treated for specific ailments, while reducing the load on the floor.
