National Cancer Statistics
In Jordan, cancer is the second most frequent cause of death after heart disease. A total of 6214 new cancer cases were registered by JNCR in 2008, of these, 4606 cases (74.1%) were among Jordanians, and 1608 cases (25.9 %) were non-Jordanians. Out of a total of 4606 new cases of cancer recorded amongst Jordanians in the 2008, of these, 2274 cases (49.3%) were males and 2332 cases (50.7%) were females. The rank order of the five most common cancers affecting Jordanians are: Breast, Colo-Rectal, Lung, Lymphoma, and Leukemia. The crude incidence rate of all cancer among Jordanians was 67.1 per 100,000 population (63.9 for males and 70.5 for females). In incidences of pediatric cancer (0 to 14 years), 232 new cancer cases were diagnosed mainly Leukemia, Lymphoma, Brain and CNS. Leukemia's were most common cancers among children ,69 cases were reported, accounting for 29.7% of all childhood cancers.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer for females, accounting for 35.3% of all female cancer. Colo-rectal cancer is the leading male cancer incidence, accounting for 14.5% of all male cancers.
